Abstract

The nonlinear Schrdinger equation is of tremendous importance in both theory and applications. The NLS type equation is the main governing equation in the area of optical solitons. Various regimes of pulse propagation in optical fibers are modeled by some form of the nonlinear Schrdinger equation. In this thesis, we introduce sequential and parallel numerical methods for numerical simulations of two dimensional nonlinear Schrdinger equations. We implement the parallel methods on the pcluster multiprocessor system at UGA. The numerical results have shown that these methods give good results and considerable speedup.
