Abstract

This thesis presents a comprehensive landscape development plan for a new regional water research facility. The project addresses growing concerns about water shortages and pollution in the U.S. It supports the federal initiative under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (1956, amended in 1962), which called for regional research facilities to study water pollution prevention and control. The Southeast Water Laboratory in Athens, Georgia, is one of nine such facilities, located near the University of Georgia. The design goals were to develop a general landscape plan emphasizing water feature (fountains, displays), integrate the building with the natural landscape, and enhance aesthetics while maintaining functionality and environmental sustainability.
