Abstract
This project was initiated by the Gainesville City Schools Board of Education to develop a landscape plan for Enota Elementary School and a 3.5-acre adjacent park. Enota Elementary was built in 1956, expanded in 1960–61, and originally sat on 45 acres, now reduced to 15.5 acres. The design serves both school children (grades 1–6) and the local neighborhood for recreational use. Located at Enota Street and Cumberland Drive, the site features a 52-foot elevation change with slopes from 1% to 50%, hardwood and pine tree coverage, and surrounding residential development. The design objectives were to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space that supports pedestrian and vehicular circulation, parking (cars and bicycles), and recreation and play areas.
