Abstract
This thesis proposes a landscape development plan for a 1.3-mile stretch of highway (Broad Street/Atlanta Highway) from the Oconee River Bridge to Hancock Avenue in Athens, Georgia. The project aims to enhance the aesthetic and functional quality of the western approach to Athens, considering its impact on tourism, business growth, and urban development. This thesis emphasizes the use of native and low maintenance plant materials to improve visual appeal, reduce noise and glare, and stabilize property values. It proposes turf planting in medians and rights-of-way, with secondary turf for steep slopes and shaded areas.
