Abstract
The current study seeks to examine significant differences in Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) scale scores of a community, adult, female sample with low SES as compared to scores of a census- matched norm sample (PAI; Morey, 1991). The scales of interest include Anxiety (ANX), Anxiety-related Disorders (ARD), Depression (DEP), Nonsupport (NON), and Stress (STR) and were chosen based on clinical relevance and connections with the conditions of poverty in existing literature. The results of the study indicate that there were significant differences between the current sample of community adult females with low-SES as compared to Moreys (1991) community adult female norm sample on each of the five PAI scales of interest. When comparing the Caucasian and African American groups within the current sample, significant differences were found only on the Stress scale.
