Abstract

The primary focus of this document is a performance edition of Friedrich Hartmann Grafs Concerto for Oboe and Bassoon, composed ca. 1780. The edition was created using a photocopy of manuscript parts donated to the University of Georgia in 2010 by Dr. David Ledet. Using the music notation software, Sibelius, a computer print score was generated. The cover page of the manuscript identifies this piece as a concerto. The same piece is listed in a library catalogue as a symphonie concertante. Formal and thematic analysis of this concerto and analysis of lists of symphonies concertantes and concertos composed from 1750 to 1800 indicate the piece is in fact a symphonie concertante, though the edition maintains the title concerto in deference to the composer.
