Abstract
This document describes work performed on two bioinformatics projects. The first project involved extending the GLYDE-II structural representation standard to include lignin structures. GLYDE-IIs original scope solely covered glycans and glycan derivatives. In biofuels research, lignin is an important compound in the secondary cell walls of plants that contributes to recalcitrance. It is therefore important to be able to computationally represent lignin as well as glycans. The second project involved the creation of a database and web application for the tracking, processing, and integration of complex carbohydrate compositional analysis data. This project introduces a novel set of calculations for determining the absolute quantities of monosaccharides in plant cell wall samples. The web application provides an easy-to-use interface for users to upload and retrieve compositional data.
