Abstract
Michelangelo adapted the form and type of the Laocon for the central Christ group in the Last Judgment. The ancient model allows for the identification of the nude figure to the right of Christ as Adam. Michelangelos repeated interest in Laocon is examined from its rediscovery in 1506, to the artists last major project prior the Last Judgment, the Medici Chapel Tomb Project. In the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo visually connects the altar wall with the previous ceiling decoration with the ancient models form and iconography.
