Abstract

A creative dissertation that investigates the complexity of the human voice and its relationship to language, music, and song through a combination of poetry, memoir, critical essays, drama, and prose fragments. The dissertation focuses on the anatomy and mechanics of the voice, scat singing and doo-wops nonsense syllables, the voice and its restrictions in the architecture of song, and the human voice and its connection to the animal and celestial.
