Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate age-related differences in temporal proximity performance in a dynamic decision-making task. Participants were asked to imagine that they were military supervisors deciding to continue or abort a pilots mission based on information they were receiving from an on-board intelligent decision support system. The information was presented as snapshots of information over three different time periods. The participants needed to combine the information from the three different time periods to reach their decision. Age differences were found based on the type of graphical format and temporal proximity condition. Displaying the relationship between cues in a meaningful way is the key to designing for integration over time. More research incorporating temporal proximity and animation is needed.
