Abstract

Force and conductance, measured across 4,4'-bipyridine simultaneously, arecrosscorrelated using a two dimensional (2D) histogram method. The result is a2D multivariate statistical analysis superior to current one dimensionalhistogram techniques for exploring significant conductance and force modulationswithin SMBJs. This method is sensitive enough to crosscorrelate signalmodulations between force and conductance traces associated with contactgeometry perturbations predicted in literature such as Au-molecule contacttwisting and slipping during junction elongation. Additionally, this techniqueis simple enough to use out-of-the-box, illustrated by itsapplication in DNA conductance measurements to describe junction conformation, facilitating better understanding of the system.
