Abstract

This thesis explores the possibilities of riparian buffer improvements specific to Terrell Creek which lies within the Proctor Creek watershed. The research integrates neighborhood quality of life with buffer improvement and assumes future development in the implementation of buffer design, which may not only effectively control runoff, erosion and pollution, but also improve the neighborhood's living conditions by exploring the environmental, social and economic quality of life. This thesis combines riparian buffer improvement with green infrastructure components and evaluates the effectiveness of each buffer type applying the assessment results to site-specific improvements. The primary foci of this thesis are the neighborhoods in the Terrell Creek watershed and the existing 25-foot riparian buffer along the creek. The thesis provides alternative buffer solutions and evaluates the functional effectiveness of each to neighborhoods, which could help the neighborhoods to find a feasible way to improve not only their creek, but the neighborhood quality of life as well.
