Abstract

This thesis explores the current management practices at four historic ruin sites in Beaufort, County, South Carolina. These ruins have varying degrees of management and treatment policies, locations, and relationships with their surrounding communities. These case studies presented multiple themes and common patterns. Analyzing these sites in their respective context displayed many elements that have contributed to the absence of a management plan. These findings should be considered when reflecting on a ruin’s management and when considering the creation of a management plan. As a final recommendation, this thesis presents a management plan framework for the Chapel of Ease based on the analyzed themes and patterns and its various needs. This framework can be applied towards sites within the same context when creating a management plan.
