Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore how historic preservation nonprofit organizations currently use social media and whether or not they follow best practices. The paper blends together three subject matters: 1) nonprofit organizations, 2) social media marketing, and 3) historic preservation to create a comprehensive guide for organizations to use. Data for this paper was collected in a myriad of ways. The literature review was sourced from scholarly research and industry leaders. Additionally, the paper includes five case study organizations, an online survey of historic preservation nonprofits from across the county, and an observational survey of each participating organization’s social media. Finally, recommendations are given.
