Abstract

Definitions Create Change will argue that agreed-upon definitions on terms like “refugees” are needed better to aid refugees fleeing persecution. This thesis will discuss the multiple definitions for refugees that exist today and the theoretical discussions of hospitality that address the way those definitions function to do good or harm. I will argue that the concept of faith-based hospitality will aid refugees best and transform the “stranger-other” into the “neighbor-friend.” Unified definitions and faith-based hospitality is a need lacking in research and in practice when it comes to aiding Muslim refugees.
