Abstract

In recent years, consumer demand for healthy, locally grown food has been on the rise. To capitalize on this steadily increasing consumer base, producers of fruits and vegetables will need to consider alternative marketing channels for their products. A significant number of businesses have begun looking for ways to bring locally grown crops directly to consumers. Given the nature of the locally grown food movement, opportunities present themselves all around the country. This paper will examine ways growers may consistently meet demand for these products. The following pages will examine what consumers may already know about conventional and more modern farming practices such as hydroponics, what type of fruits and vegetables they prefer, and what type of packaging consumers desire.
