Abstract
The management and protection of National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) requires local and regional inventories and assessments for the biological, physical, chemical, and hydrologic resources of each unit. Water resource Inventories and Assessments (WRIAs) are compiled by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USWFS) and the University of Georgia to help address perceived threats, needs or concerns on the refuge related to water resources. The objective of this thesis is to develop WRIAs for 12 NWRs in the Southeast Region and to compare the water resource threats and needs between the different refuges. WRIAs are important because summarize a variety of data pertaining to water resources and give refuges information on the resources available to them such as surface and groundwater resources, water management infrastructure, information on water quantity and water quality monitoring, historical climate data and water rights or entitlements and related laws or regulations.
