Abstract
Technology integration in the cotton industry has been on the rise with the help of John Deere’s Harvest Identification (HID). With this system, four Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags with unique serial numbers are incorporated into the module wrap. These tags could allow for the flow of data to and from the gin if this serial number is referenced for transferring. Growers can take advantage of tracking their modules from creation through module ginning by utilizing the onboard GPS and strategically located RFID scanners at the gin. With module tracking growers can link Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) classifications back to a module and the classification to a location from the field. These data can be utilized to develop module-level fiber quality maps for site-specific management. The main goal of this project was to develop fiber quality maps and determine their efficacy as a field metric.
