Abstract

The purpose of this mixed-methods research study, and three articles within, was to examine the impact of student involvement and participation in FFA and 4-H on college and career readiness prior to and upon completion of high school in Georgia. The first article examines student perception of leadership and life skills, the second examines student perception of critical thinking dispositions, and the third article examines student self-perceived communication competence. While students involved in FFA and 4-H seemingly believe they are developing and acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to be successful in college and careers, they are often unable to articulate how the organization guided their development, suggesting that students are not fully understanding the aspects of college and career readiness. To better understand the impacts of FFA and 4-H, additional research should be conducted in Georgia and across the southeast, and practitioners should be provided with the resources to support youth in understanding college and career readiness.
