Wild pigs (Sus scrofa) are a highly destructive invasive species occupying 73% of the southeastern United States. Wild pigs may negatively impact white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris). To explore effects of wild pigs on spatial distribution of white-tailed deer and wild turkeys, we developed models predicting camera trap detections of white-tailed deer and wild turkeys in the presence of wild pig. We observed spatiotemporal negative associations between wild turkeys and wild pigs but both positive and negative associations between deer and wild pigs. Both positive and negative associations can be explained by species-specific habitat preferences. Wild pig behavior is affected by helicopter gunning but behavioral responses are poorly understood. We observed an overall decline in wild pig detections as removals took place and an increase in nighttime detections in some habitats during and after aerial gunning.
