Abstract
This thesis outlines the conceptual and design process for a chapel to be built at Stone Mountain Memorial Park, Georgia, as a gift from the Atlanta Lions Club. Stone Mountain is a massive granite outcrop near Atlanta, historically associated with Confederate memorials. The park was being developed with various attractions including a lake, cable car, train, marina, and outdoor theater. The Chapel of All Faiths was proposed as a serene, inclusive space for meditation and occasional services. The design's intend was to preserve the natural beauty of the site, avoid intrusive grading and automobile access near the chapel, use natural contours, native materials, and minimal intervention, and finally emphasize design in harmony with nature, not dominance over it.
