Abstract

Two projects were conducted to evaluate the impact of anthelmintic strategies on animal performance and parasite reinfection in recently weaned beef cattle in the southeastern United States. Project 1 assessed the effectiveness of a direct-fed fenbendazole pellet and a transdermal eprinomectin pour-on during a backgrounding period and drylot stocker phase. Fenbendazole improved average daily gain (ADG) compared to both the control and pour-on treatments. Project 2 examined the effects of rotational versus continuous stocking on animal performance, parasite burden, and forage characteristics in weaned stocker cattle. Stocking method did not influence animal performance or parasite reinfection.
