Abstract

This master's thesis examines the persistent phenomenon of the „wall in people's heads“ inGermany by analyzing the ongoing differences and tensions between East and West Germany in the context of the aftermath of German reunification. The work focuses on representative works from the fields of film, literature, and music: Christian Petzold’s „Yella” (2007), Moritz von Uslar’s „Deutschboden” (2010), and Marteria’s „Scheiss Ossis” (2022). The aim is to use a cultural studies approach to shed light on the cultural and social dynamics between the two German regions. This thesis will help to elucidate the lasting impact of the Wall on individual and collective East German identities, while also shedding light on the role of art and culture in the process.
