Abstract

This study delves into equity within the domain of recreational demand, focusing on relevant aspects of recognitional, procedural, distributional equity. The data for this study was obtained from secondary source, the data collected are analyzed with descriptive statistics, two-sample T-test, analysis of variance, Chi-square and Poisson regression model. The result of the analysis revealed that the majority of the people who used the beach were young women who had an average salary of $83,400 and are of white ethnicity. Access to beach was shown to have a strong link with income, education, and ethnicity/race respectively. The Poisson regression analysis revealed that travel cost, income, ethnicity/race, and employment status were the factors influencing number of trips to the beach. The study concluded that individuals with higher income and educational status had greater access while ethnicity/race influenced both access and visit frequency. The study recommends investment in transportation infrastructure, equitable planning and development, launching public awareness campaign as means of creating more inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities for all residents of Southern California.
