Abstract
Intended as a resource for conductors interested in performing Carter Panns Symphony for Winds: My Brothers Brain, this document explores the composers life and influences, shares his personal reflections about the compositional process, provides an overview of his compositional style, and presents a descriptive analysis of the work. Analytical discussion includes how Pann employs extreme and outrageous musical gestures within form, melody, harmony, texture, and orchestration. Summary and conclusions depict Pann as the maverick of composers writing for the wind ensemble medium, with the authors intent to encourage more wind band conductors to program his music.
