This thesis articulates a variant of Christianity, as exemplified by the Catholic Worker Movement, that is radical in its submission to God and service to the Other, but anarchic in its orientation toward the State. This anarchic Christianity is grounded in radical interpretations of the Sermon on the Mount, and the thesis presents the theory and practice of the Catholic Worker as operating between Catholic social justice tradition, Levinass Other-oriented ethics, and anarcho-communist Peter Kropotkins formulations of mutual aid.
