Abstract
Deep Video is a literary science-fiction novel in the vein of Philip K. Dick, Stanislaw Lem, and Haruki Murakami. In particular, elements are drawn from Dicks The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. These elements are as follows: future drug technology, a future capitalist state dominated by oligopolies, and blurring the distinctions among the present, memory, and drug-induced hallucination. Other important elements include future media, fashion, subsidized housing, and screenwriting. The action of the novel takes place in and around Chicago, Illinois; the area of Northwest Indiana known as the Region; and Los Angeles and Riverside, California. The dissertation includes a critical introduction.
