Abstract
Plant hormones elicit certain responses by the plant, inducing physiological changes. Plant growth regulators such as Ryzup Smartgrass enhance the effect of a certain class of hormones. Ryzup Smartgrass supplies gibberellins which increases forage yield through stem elongation. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of application timings of GA3 (fall (F), winter (W), fall + winter (FW)) on species of cereal rye (Secale cereale L; CR), annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam; AR, and a combination of the two (CR + AR) that had been interseeded into a bermudagrass sod. This study was conducted over three years (2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14) in a split plot design with four replications. Application of GA3 increased forage yield relative to the untreated control in the first year of the study, but not in the subsequent years. Gibberellic acid showed inconsistencies with forage quality. Further research is needed to determine economic response.
