Abstract

Hyde Farm is located within the Atlanta Metro Region in Cobb County. Managed jointly by Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs and the National Park Service, a reactivation of agriculture on this historic farm is being considered. This thesis addresses how Hyde Farm can become a part of the local food system and work to address food-related needs within Cobb County, including agricultural education and increased access to nutritious and local foods. Understanding the greater, national movement in food systems related to planning is the first step this thesis takes in establishing the context for Hyde Farm. Next, the food systems of the Atlanta Metro Region and within Cobb County are examined. Programmatic decisions that address food-related needs are offered for Hyde Farm, as well as discussion of how the farm's historic integrity can be maintained while finding relevancy for the farm today.
