Abstract
This study examines poetry from female poets in Guatemala bornbetween 1939 and 1971. The poems originate from a literary seminar inGuatemala where Cuban and Guatemalan female poets shared their literature, however, for the purpose of this study only the poetry from the Guatemalan poetswas reviewed. The poems were placed into different categories and examinedthrough the lens of that specific category. It is proposed in this study that thepoems can be classified into three main groups: the first category thatencompasses intertextualities, the second category that includes womeninvolved in society as active participants and in revolutionary movements inGuatemala, and the third category that includes women through the lens of theenvironment and their role within it.
