Abstract
Over the course of the 18th century, many European authors wrote works as a reaction to the Seven Years War. Most of these writers, like Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim and Ewald Christian Kleist, chose male soldiers and commanders as the protagonists of their works. Christian Felix Weies poems Amazonenlieder, however, feature a female protagonist: a new Amazon. This thesis considers the character of the Amazon depicted in these poems, comparing her to the character of the ancient Amazon of Greek and Latin works like Homers Iliad and Vergils Aeneid. Futhermore, it takes a closer look at the new Amazons relationship with her male counterpart and discusses Weies presentation of the Seven Years War, patriotism, and heroic death in war in his poems.
