Abstract

The Cascade(1318) photoproduction reaction (gamma p going to Kaon Kaon Cascade) is studied using an effective Lagrangian approach. The results are compared to the experimental data obtained recently by the CLAS collaboration at Jlab. Intermediate hyperon resonances with spin up to 7/2 are included in the model. High-mass hyperons Lambda(1800), Lambda(1890) and Sigma(2030) are found to be essential to reproduce all the measured observables. Individual diagram contributions are investigated and Kaon exchange diagrams are identified to be the major production mechanism of cascade particle in the reaction considered. The photon beam and target nucleon asymmetries are predicted and are shown to be sensitive to the type of coupling (pseudoscalar or pseudovector) allowed, in principle, at the BYK coupling vertex for spin-1/2 baryons and hyperons. Therefore, these observables may be used as a tool for determining the relevant structure of this vertex.
