Abstract
Cusco, Peru is a city of 323,644 full time residents and an average annual tourist 2population of 800,000. Located at 71 5828W and 133123S and covering 617 km the city resides in a central valley high in the Andes Mountains averaging over 11,000 ft in elevation. Ambient air quality had never been assessed in Cusco. There were three objectives for this research: first, investigate ambient, regional, and street-level air pollutant concentrations in Cusco, second, characterize the spatiotemporal relationships between particle concentrations and human and physical geographical factors, and third, model particulate concentrations in a specific region of Cusco for select time periods during the day. The study took place from July thst10 - July 21, 2005.
