This study was designed as a longitudinal study of an alternative education program where students self-elect to enroll. Quantitative data collected compared grade point average, average daily attendance, and number of discipline infractions between the students traditional high school experience and the students alternative high school experience across the subgroups of sex and race/ethnicity. A survey was conducted to determine the students post-graduation status: employment and/or enrollment in a post-secondary education/training program. The sample was taken from the population of students who graduated from the Hall County Evening School yielded an initial sample of 227 subjects. Descriptive statistics included means and standard deviations for each indicator of effectiveness. Inferential statistics calculated by using paired t-tests compared the variables between the traditional high school experience and the alternative high school experience. Results indicated an increase in grade point average, improved average daily attendance and fewer disciplinary infractions in the Evening School over their traditional high school attendance. Respondents to the survey provided positive evidence of employment and/or post-secondary enrollment after graduation from the alternative program.
