Abstract
Photon Cascade Emission is an emerging technology which has application to the lighting industry. The ability of a phosphor to achieve greater than unity quantum efficiency through sequential emission of visible photons can enable higher efficiency and more environmentally friendly lamps. One ion which has appropriately spaced energy levels is trivalentPraseodymium. Previous studies of Praseodymium doped fluorides and oxides have shownthat the position of the lowest 4f [superscript 1] 15d [superscript 1] level relative to the 4f[superscript 2] [superscript 1] S [subscript 0] level will determine the material's ability to be a good cascade emitter. This study will investigate several materials which will contribute to the understanding of the Photon Cascade Process.
