Una interpretacion junguiana de El cuarto de atras de Carmen Martin Gaite

This thesis uses the theories of Carl Jung to analyze El cuarto de atrs by Carmen Martn Gaite. To begin, it analyzes the life of C within the Jungian stages of life; secondly, it explores the writing of the novel as an exercise in active imagination; thirdly, it proposes that the man in black is the animus of C; fourthly, it proposes that the animus also brings an analysis of the Spanish collective unconscious; finally, it explains the symbols that occur in the work. It is valid to analyze El cuarto de atrs from a Jungian perspective because, through the exercise of the active imagination, one may witness the revelation of the protagonists unconscious. On a second plane, one may apply these revelations to the rediscovery of the protagonists creative process and analyze the authors novelistic poetics. These two planes unite to reveal the process of creating the novel itself.
