This thesis explores the experience and lessons of how laws influence brownfieldaesthetics both in the United States and China, ultimately providing reasonable suggestions for legislation in the two countries regarding brownfield aesthetics in future projects. The scope of the laws discussed in this thesis are those containing direct references to brownfield aesthetics and those that regulate factors having an effect on brownfield aesthetics, these factors being remediation process, design process, and public participation. The study of aesthetics of brownfields based on cultural values in the United States and China provides a generaltheoretical background. Then an evaluation and diagnosis strategy, expressed in the form of the radar chart, is applied to analyze the laws influence on brownfield aesthetics in each case study in order to develop relevant suggestions for future study in the United States and China.
