Abstract

The use of urea-based fertilizers for bermudagrass pasture has increased. Several enhanced efficiency (EE) fertilizer products are available, but little research exists. This study was designed to determine the response of different N sources on Russell bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] yield, N concentration, N efficiency, NO3 concentration, and NH3 volatilization. Nitrogen was applied at 336 kg N ha-1 season-1. For total yield, AN was superior however, the EE products ATU, SU, and ATP produced total yield not different from AN. The EE products ATU, SU, and ATP resulted in N recovery not different from AN. AN and the EE products did not consistently prevent high NO3-N levels under drought stress. ATU and ESN consistently reduced ammonia volatilization relative to untreated urea. SU demonstrated mixed results, lowering the risk of volatilization in one but not both years. NSN did not lower volatilization, performing no differently than untreated urea.
