This thesis is an autoethnography that examines Southern rap music, specifically Atlanta-based snap music. Snap music is criticized for not having any musical substance and ties to conventional rap music. I examine snap music in the form of a musical autoethnography. My examination of snap music challenges VIBE magazines characterizations of snap music and its similar artists as indecorous music. I provide a textual analysis of VIBEs staff and operation as a form of Hip Hop journalism.
