Abstract

This poststructural analysis used Foucaults theory of genealogy to examine the enabling conditions that have made the power of the College Board and Advanced Placement* English possible in ways that influence secondary school English in order to demonstrate that these subjects functioned as constructs of power and culture. The analysis demonstrated how the instability of the constructs of intelligence and meritocracy undermine the College Boards function and process as the gatekeeper of the American Dream.
