Abstract

This thesis investigates the relationship between the writings of Charlotte Bront and Jane Austen. Even though Bronts letters excoriate Austen's novels, she appropriates and transforms many of Austen's themes in her own novels, such as the attitude toward nature, womens roles in society, and the role of society in limiting womens sexual choice.
